Iron is the core of hemoglobin, the protein that carries oxygen. Deficiency causes fatigue and anemia; it is the most common nutritional deficiency worldwide, per the NIH ODS.
More iron is not better. Excess iron is harmful and iron supplements should only be taken for a diagnosed deficiency, confirmed by a blood test. Never self-prescribe high-dose iron.
